The King's Garden - Copenhagen
If you enjoy walking and would like to visit one of Copenhagen's green areas, check out Kongens Have (The King's Garden) located in the heart of Copenhagen near Nørreport Station.
During the summer months, the garden is beautiful. It was laid out during the reign of King Christian IV in 1606. The King ordered the land to be cleared of houses so he could build a summer house which turned out to be Rosenborg Castle. The castle was used regularly as a royal residence until the start of the 17th century. Today, it serves as a museum of cultural history and houses the royal jewels among other cultural treasures.
Kongens Have is a popular retreat for Copenhageners during the summertime and attracts an estimated 2.5 million visitors every year. Be prepared to see bicycles everywhere, pets and partially-clothed individuals trying to catch a few rays.
Entrance to the garden is free. Opening hours are from 7 am to 10 pm in the summertime and from 7 am to 5 pm during winter. To see Rosenborg Castle, however, you have to pay an entrance fee. The cost is 105 DKK for adults (18 years or older) while children enter free of charge.
