Copenhagen's Bridges

Copenhagen has many bridges which provide easy access to various parts of the city and surrounding areas.  Special emphasis has been placed on creating bridges for cyclists and pedestrians.  Bridges are the perfect solution as they take you to your destination faster especially over the waterways and you do not get caught up in traffic.  Copenhagen’s pedestrian, bicycle and road bridges come in all shapes, lengths and sizes. Here are some you might use when you come to Copenhagen.

The Circle Bridge connects Christiansbro to Applebys Plads.  This unique 35 m long swing bridge has five circular bases, each with its own masts.  Three of the circular bases are movable to allow the boats to pass.

The Inner Harbour Bridge (Inderhavnsbroen)  is a bicycle bridge which joins Havngade at Nyhavn to Christianshavn.  It is perfect for walkers and cyclists.  If you are in the inner city and would like to get to places such as Christianshavn without using public transport, this is the bridge for you. The bridge is only 180 m long.  The bridges, Trangravsbroen and Proviantbroen, are close by.

Cykelslangen, known as the Cycle Snake is an elevated 220 m long bicycle bridge, which connects Vesterbro to Islands Brygge.  This bridge connects to another bridge called Bryggebroen.

Dronning Louise’s Bridge is a road bridge between the lakes and connects Frederiksborggade and Nørrebrogade.  The new 5C bus runs on this bridge, so take a trip or just walk from Nørreport Station.  As seen from the picture, this is a hangout for young people to bring their, coffee, water or drinks and spend time together.

The Øresund Bridge is a 16-km long bridge which links Denmark to Malmö, Sweden.  The island of Peberholm links the bridge to a 4 km-long tunnel which was built in the Øresund seabed.  A trip across the bridge from the Copenhagen area takes you to the beautiful, trendy city of Malmö in Sweden.  Plan a one-day trip by car or train.  It is only just over 30 minutes from Copenhagen Central Station.
