Christianshavn

The narrow cobblestoned streets, boats by the canal, quaint restaurants, cafés, bars and the maritime atmosphere make Christianshavn a very special place in Copenhagen.  This village within the city was formerly an independent merchant town. In 1674 Christianshavn officially became part of Copenhagen. Christianshavn features an interesting mix of inhabitants; artists, elderly, students, and families live side by side in houses, apartments, and boats.

Christianshavn also includes the three smaller, less inhabited islands, Holmen, Papirøen and Refshaleøen.  Interesting attractions and sights on these islands include Copenhagen Opera House and Refshaleøen, where events are held such as The Eurovision Song Contest (Melodi Grand Prix) in 2013.
