    Explore Christianshavn and Amager

South of central Copenhagen, you will find Christianshavn and Amager – two areas that show the city’s creative and local side. This is where canals, cafés and culture meet wide beaches and open nature. Both districts are easy to reach by bike or metro from Danhostel Copenhagen City.

Start in Christianshavn, known for its colourful canals and relaxed atmosphere. Grab a coffee and a slice of cake at Parterre Café, or climb to the top of Our Saviour’s Church for one of Copenhagen’s best views. For lunch, head to Tino’s Pizza, loved by locals for its thin, crispy Italian-style pizzas. Eat by the water and enjoy the view of the city.

By the waterfront you will also find the Copenhagen Opera House, an architectural landmark gifted to the city by the A.P. Møller Foundation. Nearby, Islands Brygge Harbour Bath is the perfect summer stop for a swim in clean water with lifeguards on duty.

Cross the bridge to Amager, where the atmosphere changes from urban to coastal. Try a homemade ice cream at Ismageriet, one of Copenhagen’s best. Continue to Amager Strandpark, a long sandy beach only 15 minutes from the city centre. You can get there by bike or metro, and the view of the Øresund Bridge is stunning.

If you want a dose of adventure, visit Copenhagen Cable Park at Refshaleøen for wakeboarding on the water. For a quieter escape, explore Amager Fælled and Kalvebod Fælled, two green nature areas with walking paths, birdlife and open skies.

End your day with a trip to Dragør, a small harbour town just 12 km from the City Hall Square. The yellow houses, cobbled streets and seaside cafés make it one of Denmark’s most picturesque spots – perfect for a half-day trip from Copenhagen.
