Amager Strandpark – Copenhagen’s Urban Beach
When summer arrives in Denmark, locals head straight for Amager Strandpark, Copenhagen’s favourite seaside escape. The long sandy beach stretches for 4.6 kilometres and is only 15 minutes by bike from the city centre.
The beach has been a popular spot since 1934, and in 2005 a new 2 km artificial island was added, creating calm lagoons, bridges and more space for everyone. You can swim, play beach volleyball, go kayaking or just relax in the sun. The shallow areas are perfect for children, while the promenade is ideal for walking, cycling or rollerblading.
In the evenings, Amager Strandpark comes alive with people enjoying barbecues, music and sunset swims. During summer, you might even catch an open-air concert or a sports event along the waterfront.
The beach is easy to reach by Metro line M2, with stops at Øresund, Amager Strand and Femøren Stations. Whether you come for a morning dip or a full day by the water, Amager Strandpark is a must-visit for anyone exploring Copenhagen in summer.
