Roskilde Cathedral is the burial place of Danish monarchs. The city of Roskilde is home to the Viking Ship Museum which displays five original ships recovered from Roskilde Fjord. West of Isefjord
Do not overlook the area of Isefjord in West Zealand if you want to enjoy beautiful surroundings, culture and attractions close to North Zealand. Visit Røsnæs with its famous lighthouse. Take a trip to Kalundborg, a medieval city, and view the Church of Our Lady. After a long day, dine at Restaurant Bispegården located just 300 m from Danhostel Kalundborg. Sjællands Odde, a 15-km long peninsula, is north of the hostel, while Nyrup Bay has beautiful beaches and fishing opportunities. Ossherred, home to the only UNESCO-protected Geopark in Denmark, is worth seeing. Stay at Danhostel Nykøbing Sjælland, located just 100 m from Isefjord and Anneberg Forest.
Take a trip on the beautiful Danish Monastic Route (Den Danske Kloserrute) which is a hiking route with roads and trails. The route winds past idyllic monasteries, castle ruins, pleasant villages and through Denmark’s fourth-largest forest, Gribskov. Cycle on a well-developed network of routes near beautiful scenery and local attractions. End your trip in Kalundborg in West Zealand, and ride on an Icelandic horse along the banks of the freshwater lake, Tissø.
