Danhostel Henne Strand
Stay at budget prices and enjoy a cosy, relaxed stay in one of Henne Strand’s most attractive holiday location. With several km of white sand beaches and the wind in your hair, visit the wild dune plantations including Gråmulebjerg, the highest dune in the oak forest.
Danhostel Henne Strand, built in 1937, lies in the middle of town and is open from June 1 to September 15 each year. It is a small, carefully modernised family-run hostel with 40 in 11 rooms. Many guests visit to enjoy the activities at the North Sea or to meet new friends; however, it is primarily the stunning location between sea and the town that attracts visitors. ‘Location, location, location’, as well as ‘a great deal of charm’ say it all about Henne Strand.
When you stand in the common room at Danhostel Henne Strand, you can sense the hostel’s history. Imagine bygone days when the long tables in the common room were removed and people danced and sang until dawn. In the old days, almost all cyclists came to the hostel, and host Ole Møller Nielsen saved all his guest books from 1937. A selection of pictures still hang on the wall.
We are only 500 m from the white sand beach and sheltered dunes, so grab your robe and slip your feet in the sand in just a few minutes. Every evening at the hostel, there is free coffee and tea with a modest accompaniment. The fireplace is lit when the weather changes and the charm induces many to return year after year to enjoy comfortable accommodation in the middle of one of Denmark's most attractive holiday areas.
Henne Strand, located in Varde by the North Sea, is one of Denmark's most popular bathing and tourist resorts near the North Sea. This area is characterised by white sand beaches, dunes and forests. The town has several well-stocked stores with beach gear, toys, amber and a variety of groceries. In addition, there is a fishmonger, who sells his catch every other day, so you can use our guest kitchen to make yourself a great meal. There are many eateries, which sell a variety of cuisine, so Henne Strand is the place where many kite surfers, hikers, cyclists, singles and foodies come when they need budget accommodation so they can splurge on the expensive cuisine on offer.
Lyngbo Meadows and Blåbjerg Plantation lie north of Henne Strand. Close to the sea lies Gammelgab and Ringkøbing Fjord, the original outlet to the North Sea. If you like high dunes, visit the Gråmulebjerg in the oak forest south of Henne Strand. All areas are rich in animal and bird life. See migratory and resident birds and perhaps you might get a glimpse of a red deer. There are golf courses and riding opportunities within a 3-km radius of our hostel. There is a small indoor waterpark about 3 km away, and it is only 5 km to the large waterparks. There are two swimming pools – one is just 300 m from the hostel, while the larger is 5 km away.
Danhostel Henne Strand provides guests with transportation to and from Henne Station and host and staff are happy to help guests find alternative accommodation and in and around Henne Strand.
