Danhostel Sønderborg-Vollerup sits on a 5-acre oasis and is a great hostel for families with children. The guest kitchens, dining room, lounge and bedrooms still retain their charming period style. Our hostel has 50 rooms with private or shared bathrooms. Sønderborg is a beautiful town located in Southern Denmark, close to the German border. The area of Vollerup is located just 5 km northeast of Sønderborg Town Centre. There are many shops, restaurants, cafes, and a host of opportunities for hiking, fishing, cycling and golf. Each year the town and its environs host many concerts, festivals and events, including a re-enactment of the Battle of Als.
Popular attractions in Sønderborg and the surroundings areas include Sønderborg Castle, Dybbøl Mill, and Dybbøl Banke History Centre, which recounts the Danish-Prussian War of 1864. Hike cycle on the 74-km long Gendarme path, a route which stretches from Als to Padborg. Visit Universe Science and Experience Park, where the family can play and learn together and the island of Als, which is just 30 km from the Danish-German border. Als has many forested areas along the coastline and is ideal for horseback riding, swimming, angling, windsurfing, hiking and cycling. Other places of interest are Thomas Eje Gallery, Augustenborg Castle and Dybbøl Mill, which are just a 15-minute drive from our hostel. Danhostel has two accommodations in Sønderborg - one in the town centre and the other in the rural area called Vollerup. There is also a large Danhostel in Rinkenæs. All 3 locations are close to the border with Germany and are good starting points for a holiday in South Jutland.
